Description
01 | Flying Lion Statue Overview
The DZC105 flying lion statue is a large outdoor bronze sculpture inspired by the traditional Venetian lion statue, also known as the Lion of Saint Mark. It combines the powerful body of a male lion with wide feathered wings, creating a majestic appearance.
The lion stands on a rugged rock base, with one front paw raised and its head held high. Its detailed mane, muscular body, and open wings give the sculpture a strong visual presence.
Traditionally, the winged lion represents strength, protection, and authority. Our design also expresses courage and justice, making it suitable for city squares, public plazas, luxury hotel entrances, castles, palaces, villa gardens, churches, and religious buildings.
D&Z Sculpture provides custom solutions for different projects. The lion’s pose, wing design, base, size, material, and surface finish can be adjusted to meet specific design and installation requirements.

02 | Flying Lion Statue Design and Other Styles
The sculpture features a male lion with large wings, a muscular body, and a natural rock base.
Its head has a calm yet powerful expression. The thick, flowing mane is carefully sculpted to show individual strands of hair. Both wings extend upward, with overlapping feathers creating depth and movement.
The lion’s legs and body follow realistic proportions, while the rounded paw details maintain a strong appearance without excessively sharp claws.
The rock base adds height and supports the overall composition. The bronze casting process helps reproduce the detailed hair, feathers, muscles, and textured rock surfaces.

In addition to the main design, we offer several other styles of winged lion statues.
Winged Lion with Decorative Ball
The lion rests one paw on an ornamental sphere decorated with fleur-de-lis patterns and olive branches. This design has a classical appearance and suits palace entrances, large estates, and luxury buildings.

Walking Winged Lion
The lion moves forward with its wings extended. Its natural walking posture creates a sense of movement while maintaining an elegant appearance.

Front-Facing Guardian Lion
The lion stands upright, facing forward with both wings spread. This symmetrical composition suits building entrances and can be customized as a matching pair.

Roaring Flying Lion
The lion raises its front paws and opens its mouth in a powerful roar. Its dramatic pose makes it a striking focal point for city squares and public spaces.

Crouching Winged Lion
The lion lowers its body as if preparing to move, while its wings extend backward. This design combines a compact form with a sense of strength and movement.
Each design can be adjusted according to the required dimensions, architectural setting, and installation conditions.

03 | History and Origins of the Flying Lion Statue
The inspiration for DZC105 comes from the Lion of Venice, one of the most recognizable symbols of the Italian city.
The winged lion traditionally represents Saint Mark the Evangelist, the patron saint of Venice. For centuries, this image has appeared on Venetian buildings, churches, public squares, flags, and historical emblems.
One of the best-known examples of a Venice winged lion statue is the bronze Lion of Venice standing on a tall column in the Piazzetta di San Marco. This historic monument is also associated with searches for the San Marco lion statue.
In Christian art, the winged lion is associated with Saint Mark and the Gospel. In Venetian history, the image also became a symbol of civic authority and the former Venetian Republic.
Traditional representations sometimes include a book, halo, or sword.
Our design is a modern interpretation of this historical artistic tradition rather than an exact reproduction. It retains the powerful lion and feathered wings while introducing new poses, sculptural details, and base designs for contemporary landscapes.
04 | Symbolism of the Flying Lion Statue
A flying lion statue combines the symbolic qualities of a lion with those of wings.
- Strength and Courage: The lion’s muscular body and confident posture represent bravery, determination, and power.
- Protection and Guardianship: The lion is often associated with guarding important places. At an entrance, it creates a sense of protection and dignity.
- Authority and Nobility: The lion has long been connected with royal power and leadership in different artistic traditions.
- Freedom and Spiritual Elevation: The open wings suggest freedom, vision, and a connection between the earthly and spiritual worlds.
- Justice and Honor: In this design, the lion’s upright posture also expresses fairness, dignity, and responsibility.
These meanings make the sculpture suitable for both private architectural spaces and public cultural landmarks.
05 | Flying Lion Statue Material and Bronze Casting Process
The main sculpture is made from cast bronze, a durable material commonly used for outdoor statues and public art.
Bronze allows detailed reproduction of the lion’s muscular structure, flowing mane, layered feathers, and rocky base.

The main production process includes five steps.
- Clay Model: Sculptors create the original clay model and refine the lion’s proportions, feather structure, facial expression, and rock base.
- Mold Making: Molds are produced from the approved model to reproduce its detailed surfaces.
- Bronze Casting: Bronze components are cast according to the mold design and required production method.
- Welding and Assembly: The cast sections are joined, including the body, wings, tail, and other components.
- Polishing and Surface Finishing: Welds are refined, surfaces are polished, and the selected bronze color and protective finish are applied.
Bronze offers good outdoor durability and does not develop iron rust. However, its surface can naturally oxidize and change color over time. Appropriate protective finishing and maintenance help preserve the desired appearance.

06 | Flying Lion Statue Size Options
We offer different dimensions to meet the needs of private gardens, architectural entrances, and large public art projects.
- 1.5–2 m: Suitable for villa gardens, private courtyards, and smaller decorative spaces.
- 2–3 m: Suitable for hotel entrances, resort landscapes, and building forecourts.
- 3–5 m: Suitable for large plazas, palace entrances, and public landmarks.
- Above 5 m: Suitable for monumental outdoor installations and major architectural projects.
These are reference height ranges rather than fixed specifications.
The overall length, wingspan, rock base, and pedestal dimensions can also be customized.
For large designs, we consider the relationship between sculpture height, wing extension, structural support, and installation space to maintain suitable proportions and stability.

07 | Flying Lion Statue Applications
The large winged lion statue can be used in different outdoor architectural and landscape projects.
City Squares and Public Plazas
Its powerful form and open wings create a recognizable landmark. It can serve as a central sculpture that reflects the character and cultural identity of a public space.
Luxury Hotel Entrances
A bronze lion statue adds a classical and prestigious appearance to hotel entrances, courtyards, and landscaped arrival areas.
Castle and Palace Entrances
Inspired by European artistic traditions, the winged lion complements stone architecture, grand entrances, columns, and formal courtyards.
Luxury Villa Gardens
It can be placed near garden entrances, landscaped terraces, fountains, or central pathways.
Churches and Religious Buildings
The winged lion has a historical association with Saint Mark. It is therefore a suitable artistic reference for certain religious and cultural settings, depending on the site’s traditions and design requirements.
Other Architectural Spaces
The sculpture can also be adapted for museums, cultural centers, resorts, institutional entrances, and memorial landscapes.

09 | Flying Lion Statue Structure and Installation
Large outdoor sculptures require a reliable supporting structure and secure installation.
For a hollow cast-bronze design, an internal steel frame can be incorporated to support the body and extended wings. The structure helps distribute loads and maintain the sculpture’s shape.
The lion and its rock base are connected to an engineered mounting system. Depending on the project, installation may include a steel base plate, anchor bolts, and a concrete foundation.
The final structure and fixing method are determined according to the sculpture’s dimensions, weight, local wind conditions, and foundation requirements.
D&Z Sculpture can provide installation drawings, technical guidance, and on-site installation services according to the project scope.
Our goal is to help customers complete safe and stable installations for outdoor environments.

10 | Flying Lion Statue Packaging and Worldwide Shipping
Before shipment, we protect the sculpture’s finished surface and delicate details.
Protective foam, soft wrapping materials, and cushioning are applied around the mane, wings, paws, and other detailed areas.
The sculpture is then secured inside a reinforced wooden shipping crate. Suitable internal supports help reduce movement and the risk of damage during transportation.
For oversized projects, the wings or other components may be packed separately when the approved structure allows sectional assembly.
D&Z Sculpture supports international sea freight, land transportation, and air freight where dimensions and logistics permit.
